{"id":1,"date":"2016-06-18T00:47:01","date_gmt":"2016-06-18T00:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/showmegeology.sdsu.edu\/?p=1"},"modified":"2025-02-07T16:58:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T16:58:16","slug":"call-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/showmegeology.sdsu.edu\/index.php\/2016\/06\/18\/call-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Show Me Geology is a K-12 science outreach program initiated by undergraduate students in the Department of Geological Sciences in 1993.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a half-day (9 am to noon) program where students from local districts come to campus.\u00a0 We promote inquiry-based pedagogy and problem solving, hands-on experimentation, and small-group collaboration in workshops that center around rocks and minerals, fossils and geologic time, and earthquakes.<\/p>\n<p>The program now reaches ~1,000 students each year plus dozens of in-service and pre-service teachers. An infusion of NSF funding allowed the program to evolve into a partnership between Geological Sciences and the SDSU Liberal Studies pre-service teacher education program, which the Department of Geological Sciences supports via our Geol 104 and Geol 412 course offerings.
